My work with senior citizens has been diverse and interesting. Over the years, I’ve gained experience in various settings, including a nursing home, assisted living facility, and a senior center. I’ve always enjoyed working in the field of aging. Here at PEP, I work with the Advisory committee, partners, staff, and seniors to create positive relationships between PEP and other organizations, businesses, the community, and our local government representatives. I’m also responsible for program planning and developing our monthly PEP Talks newsletter. My door is always open, and I am always available for discussions.

Through my work at PEP, I have spent several years advising seniors about the various resources available to them so that they can continue to live at home. I also provide and explain information to them about government benefits and entitlements. Born and raised in New York, I received a Masters Degree in Social Work from Barry University in Miami, Florida. My professional experiences have included working in many different settings- a nursing home, hospice, and substance abuse clinic, as well as working with developmentally disabled people and foster families. At PEP, I am dedicated to assisting Parkchester seniors in many different capacities. There are no requests that I won't take. Working at PEP has given me the opportunity to earn a living while enhancing the lives of others. This has been my professional mission since I entered the field of social work.

As a social worker at PEP for Seniors, I counsel the elderly on government benefits and entitlements, do home assessments, and help seniors obtain the resources they need to allow them to remain in their homes independently and safely. I’ve been working with seniors all of my life. I began by doing errands for Seniors in Harlem, NY, organizing Senior’s Advocacy rallies in the Bronx. I then attended the New York University Silver School of Social Work, focusing on Aging Populations. During this time, I also worked for the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged (JASA) Caregivers/Respite Program and JASA Bronx Adult Protective Services. My goal is to provide high quality service and support to members of the Parkchester community.

As a little girl, I had to wait in the nurse’s lounge at the hospital where my oldest sister worked until my mom took me home. My sister was a matron at that hospital where I was born and she cared for those in need. I watched the doctors and nurses as they labored energetically to save and sustain life. My observations prompted me to care for those in need and to make a difference. I went on to pursue nursing as a profession. I started my career in 1993 and I’ve worked in acute, sub-acute, long-term care, assisted living and other skilled health care facilities. I also have a wealth of experience in community health nursing and as a community nursing educator. As the community nurse educator here at PEP, my goal is to promote wellness and prevent illness through education. I find it very rewarding working here at PEP for Seniors and caring for the community.

I am the first person you will see when you walk into our office and the go-to person for information on our upcoming activities and events. The seniors here inspire me to keep moving forward and believe it or not they keep me youthful and motivated! They have even influenced me to continue with my studies. I am currently in the process of completing an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. I am grateful to the seniors of Parkchester who have encouraged me along the way.
